I have several images I took of beautiful villas along the sea as I drove toward Italy. I'm not even bothering to submit them to some of the other stock sites because of this new and what I feel is ridiculous demand for property releases. Fotolia wanted a property release for a roofline. The complete house was not even visible.
Once my personal business site is set up properly which I hope will be happening in the next few weeks I will have these images available there.

John what is your opinion and requirement for photos of this type?

Thanks

I can understand why they might want property releases however, before I started this site I did a little research on the various sites to see what they did.

The rule for this site is similar to that of Alamy.

You as the photographer are responsible for obtaining appropriate releases whether for models or for property. You don't have to upload your release if you have one but you are required to provide one if requested to do so.

The only time that would be necessary would be if a buyer requested it. If you can't provide one then it may result in your image not being used or someone chasing you to say why.

If you don't have a model release then you should stipulate in the description  that you don't have one. Conversely, if you want buyers to be sure that you do have a model release then it may be an idea to say in the description that a model release is available on request. The default assumption is that you do have a release even though you are not required to upload at the time.

Actually, it has made me think that I should add model and property release tick boxes at the time of upload. Then images of people could be uploaded without any release as editorial.. I'd rather photographers keep responsibilty of maintaining and providing a release if requested.

I'd also create a new category for editorial images...

Thanks John,

I think the tick boxes are a good idea. Until I will include in my description that I have no model or property release when appropriate.

I'll give my opinion on model and property releases another time in the proper forum. Wink
